- Open to 6th graders; 7th & 8th graders may join to improve fundamentals.
- Entrance standard: 50 yards freestyle in under 1:00.
- Period: 10th period.
- Does not confer eligibility to compete in UIL meets.

Pershing is committed to developing student‑athletes who excel in the classroom and in the pool. We value dedication to excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship.
Year‑Round Athletics Swim Classes
Competition Class (UIL 7th & 8th)
- For advanced swimmers who meet the following standards:
- Start of 7th grade: 50 yards freestyle < 45.00.
- Start of 8th grade: 50 yards freestyle < 40.00.
- Butterfly: 50 yards ≤ 50.00 with good form.
- Periods: 5th and 10th periods.
UIL Swim Team Eligibility & Expectations
- Must be enrolled in the UIL Competition Class.
- Attend after‑school training every Tuesday and Thursday in season.
- Compete in meets and attend Championship Finals at the end of the season.
- Team tryouts held before Thanksgiving to secure roster spots and event assignments based on performance.
Season Timeline
Students begin swimming during the second week of school. The 7th & 8th grade UIL season starts after the Thanksgiving holiday and concludes with the HISD Swimming Championships in February. After the season, UIL swimmers continue training to build endurance and advance skills.
Tryouts & Safety
All students must try out to ensure they meet safety and performance standards appropriate to their class level.
