About the Pershing Aquatics Program

At Pershing, our Aquatics curriculum is designed to develop each swimmer’s skills through progressive training stages. Students are placed in the class that best fits their current ability and work through a structured plan blending stroke technique, endurance training, competition readiness, and lifelong water safety skills.

Curriculum Highlights

1. Stroke Technique & Fundamentals

  • Mastery of the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
  • Drills to refine body position, streamline, and breathing efficiency.
  • Focus on starts, turns, and finishes for all strokes.
  • Reference: Stroke Performance Chart – Level 3, Level 4, Level 5.

2. Endurance & Conditioning

  • Interval and distance training to build stamina for both short and long events.
  • Dryland exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and injury prevention.
  • Progressive training cycles that increase yardage and intensity over time.

3. Racing Skills & Strategy

  • Learning pacing, race planning, and tactical skills for competition.
  • Simulated race sets to prepare for high-pressure environments.
  • Seasonal time trials to measure improvement.

4. Water Safety & Lifelong Skills

  • American Red Cross water safety principles.
  • Emergency self-rescue techniques.
