Pershing Aquatics Program

Hello! I’m Coach Yasin Puertas, proud Head Coach of the Pershing Aquatics Program and dedicated educator. 🏊♂️💪

Born and raised on the beautiful African coast of the Mediterranean Sea, I learned to swim before I could walk — water has always been my second home. Over the years, I’ve turned that lifelong passion into a career dedicated to helping young swimmers reach their full potential in and out of the pool.

As Head Coach, I lead our year-round swimming program, focusing on stroke excellence, endurance training, competition preparation, and building a strong team culture. My goal is to challenge every swimmer to grow, while fostering an environment built on integrity, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Outside the pool, I’m an educator with 23 years of teaching experience, currently serving as Pershing Middle School’s AP Spanish Language and Culture teacher, Journalism teacher, and Yearbook Adviser. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communication, a Master’s degree in Cinema Production & Scriptwriting, and another Master’s in New Information Technology. 📚🎓

I’m also the tech coordinator for our team — managing timing systems, maintaining our website, and ensuring our program runs smoothly from start to finish.

Whether we’re training for the UIL Championships or refining the fundamentals in practice, I believe in creating a space where every swimmer feels supported, motivated, and proud of their progress.
