Swim News Feb - Important Dates
Swim Parents,
Congratulations on an Undefeated season. However, there is no time to rest. We are off to the Championships! February is a busy month. Here is what’s going on.
Tue, Feb 13th – Time Trials for 2nd period, 6th period & swimmers not in the class – 4:00 – 5:30
I am able to time 4th and 8th period in class because Mr. Puertas has those periods off. We just can’t make it work for 2nd and 6th. I look forward to seeing all the time the kids are dropping.
There will not be a make up for kids that have to miss. I know everyone has commitments, so I understand if they can’t make it.
Sat, Feb 17th – HISD Division II Championships – 2:30 – approx. 5:00
Athletes need to be at the Lamar HS Natatorium by 1:15.
The meet will start at 2:30 and is expected to run until around 5:00
Sat, Feb 17th – End of Season Social – 5:30 – 8:00
After the Championships we will celebrate our season with a social at Pershing from 5:00 – 8:00
We will meet in the small gym where we will play blind nuke ‘em, eat pizza and cake and hang out. We will also have the softball field available to play a kickball game.
Parents and siblings are welcome to attend. No non-swimming friends. We want to make it about the team.
To help cover the cost of pizza, cake, and drinks for this social and the fun meet, please send $10 to Mrs. Jennifer Rozelle via Venmo. (@Jennifer-Rozelle-4)
Tue, Feb 27th – Water Polo Clinic @ Pershing – 4:30 – 6:30
I have invited Lamar HS Water Polo team to come over for a familiarization clinic. This is not mandatory. Just for kids who are available and would like to know more about the sport. The clinic will be run by the Coach of Lamar’s Water Polo Team and several players on her team.
You don’t need to have any experience or gear. Just show up in your team suit and prepare to have fun and learn about our newest High School UIL sport!
Wed, Feb 28th – Fun Meet @ Pershing – 6:00 – 8:00
Mark your calendars. This is a great time. I will divide the team into five equal teams. I painstakingly balance the teams based on grade, gender, and speed. The goal is making five balanced teams.
The meet is composed entirely of relays. Athletes will swim the four basic strokes and a bunch of fun relays. Examples (Dynamic Duos, T-shirt Relay, Dolphin Dives, FrankenStrokes, Fin Races, Seated Swim, and backwards swimming)
We will have Celebrity Guest Coaches (former Pershing swimmers) for each team. The coaches will help motivate and encourage athletes. Spoiler: We may have them race at the end!
