    Pershing Family

Dear Pershing Swim Team Athletes and Parents,

I am writing to inform you of my decision to retire from HISD and Pershing Middle School effective this Friday, Feburary 28th. I have cherished my time at Pershing and am truly sad to leave before the end of the school year. After 26 fulfilling years in education and 5 years at Pershing, I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of this very successful swim program and to have contributed to our shared successes.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked with so many amazing athletes and parents. I enjoy watching my students grow, many over several years. As a coach I delight in seeing my former athletesโ€™ success beyond their time in middle school, whether in the natatorium or in life. I have been blessed to hear from the parents of former athletes and the athletes themselves years down the road. These thoughts and messages mean so much.

I know you may ask, โ€œWhy must Coach leave before the year is out?โ€ It is a fair question that I believe deserves an answer. I am leaving to help my family. My mother passed away in November. My father has advanced dementia and is medically fragile. My brother, sister, and I have decided to provide 24 hour care for my father instead of placing him in a home. My brother and sister have been providing this care since October, when my father suffered a fall that required a week stay in intensive care. My family is very close and it is my duty to help them. They are both struggling and canโ€™t wait until the end of the year. Please know that I will always cherish the time I have had at Pershing.

Thank you for the incredible memories and for making my time with the Pershing Swim Team so rewarding. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

    Sincerely,

    Coach Snook
